Greetings Wessington Springs Community,
It has been a great start to the school year. There are always some kinks to work out, but the students and staff have been patient, flexible and wonderful to work with. This week we are celebrating Homecoming 2026. Many activities already have taken place and more to come. It is a fun time for students, staff, parents and the community. Unfortunately, we were not able to line up home volleyball matches during the week for homecoming. Schedules are created years in advance and the SDHSAA puts together the football schedule. However, the Wessington Springs Spartans will be hosting a varsity volleyball tournament on Saturday, September 26. There will be eight other teams coming to Wessington Springs for this tournament. The 281 conference volleyball tournament will also be at Wessington Springs on October 3. In addition, the JH volleyball team will be hosting a tournament on October 10. So, there will be three Saturdays in a row where both the Main gym and Rec Center will be busy with volleyball and many other teams coming into our community. The cross country team was going to host the 281 conference meet on Wednesday, September 23 at 10 a.m. It has been postponed due to weather and we will keep you posted on the reschedule date.
The Bucks football game will be on Friday, September 25 here in Wessington Springs. Marching band will be having a couple of performances throughout the week and that information is given in this edition of the True Dakotan.
The homecoming parade will be on Friday, September 25 at 2:00 pm.
On Thursday, September 24, the Senior Ag students will be processing a beef in the Ag lab. This beef was killed at a certified locker and transported to Wessington Springs in quarters. The students will be processing this beef into ground beef. That ground beef will then be taken to elementary school kitchen and used for school lunch throughout the year. This is an exciting project and very unique to South Dakota.
The Wessington Springs Schools have started the Strategic Planning process. Surveys were sent to staff, parents and students to complete. We also have a Community survey that we would like community members to complete. Information from these surveys is very helpful in creating a new Strategic Plan. A thank you to community members in filling out this survey.
