Dale Henry Abraham was born January 21, 1938, to Vernon (Cy) and Mildred (Harmdierks) Abraham in Wessington Springs, SD. There, he was raised with his two brothers on the family farm where they all learned drive, dedication, and hard work.
In 1955, he joined the US Army and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1958. During that time, he was stationed in Virginia, where he met his wife, Joan Powell. They later divorced after welcoming three children: David, Sharon, and Kenny.
He returned to the West when opportunities opened up for his career as a truck driver andheavyequipmentoperator. His many projects included the construction of Big Bend Dam near his hometown of Wessington Springs and I-70 through Colorado. He decided to stay in Colorado, settling in the Denver area. There, he opened his own hauling business, which he operated until his retirement.
Family meant everything to Henry. After losing his father, he took in and cared for his mother, always ensuring her well-being. He was also very close to both of his brothers, with whom he spoke weekly and visited regularly. And while his children grew up back in Virginia, they were never far from his mind, and he loved them dearly.
Henry was a man with attention to detail. Everything he owned had its place, and he prided himself on neatness and organization. He also had a lighter side where he could be found riding his bike alongside his dog Lucy or sitting on the couch watching sports. He was a big fan of the Denver Broncos and Nuggets, especially. His warm smile and kind heart won him many friends and admirers.
Henry is survived by his sons, David Abraham (Norfolk, VA), Kenneth Abraham (Bridget) (Virginia Beach, VA), and Sharon Matthews (Norfolk, VA), his beloved nieces and nephew, as well as his constant companion, Miss Kitty.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Vernon and Donald Abraham, his nephew Kelly Abraham, and his daughter-in-law Sallie Abraham.
Henry requested no Memorial Service but will be buried with Military Honors at a later date.
Any donations in memory of Henry to veterans’ organizations or animal rescue groups would be appreciated.
