Incumbent Mayor Brian Bergeleen to serve another term
Voting in Alpena, Gann Valley and Wessington Springs remained busy last Tuesday, April 12 as area residents determined who will represent constituents in the Town of Alpena, City of Wessington Springs Ward 3 and Mayor and the Wessington Springs School District Board of Education.
Alpena canvassed votes at its regular meeting held Wednesday, April 13, confirming results below. At press deadline, the City of Wessington Springs was scheduled to canvass votes at its special meeting Tuesday evening. The school district will canvass votes at its next regular board meeting on May 9. Canvassed and uncanvassed election results can be found below:

About the elections
Seven candidates vied for three vacant positions on the Wessington Springs School District Board of Education. The three-year terms of Amber Kolousek, Chris Schimke and Jim Burg will become vacant due to the expiration of present terms of office.
In Wessington Springs, incumbent Brian Bergeleen and current Ward 3 councilman Pat Fastnacht ran for Mayor. A Ward 3 election was held with Joe Hettinger and Natasha Waters running for the vacant position. Incumbents in Wards 1 and 2, Ryan Knipfer and Layton Schimke, respectively, were unopposed. Vacancies included the two-year term of Mayor Brian Bergeleen, two-year term of First Ward Alderman Ryan Knipfer, two-year term of Second Ward Alderman Layton Schimke and two-year term of Third Ward Alderman Pat Fastnacht.
Tara Viktora and Steve Small ran for the position that will become vacant due to expiration of present term, currently held by Terry Nedved.
