Kathie Allstot, 66, of Wessington Springs passed away February 13, 2022 at her residence in Wessington Springs. A celebration of Kathie’s life will be held Saturday April 23, 2022 at 2 p.m. at the Basham Funeral chapel in Wessington Springs. Following the service refreshments will be served at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
Kathie was born in Volga, SD, on May 1, 1955 and spent her childhood in Aurora, SD, attending Aurora District 85 and Brookings Public Schools, graduating from Brookings High School in 1973. She attended South Dakota State University and obtained her Parks Management degree. After college, she went to work for the City of Aberdeen’s Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department and after a few years, she was hired as the Riverside Cemetery sexton for Aberdeen. Kathie spent her entire career as sexton which included digging graves, selling plots and giving presentations about the cemetery and some of the people buried there. She was active in her church and community functions, including adopting rescue pets.
Kathie retired in 2016 and moved to Wessington Springs to enjoy the small town life that reminded her of her childhood. She gathered friends in her neighborhood, volunteered for community programs, gardened and enjoyed attending the local school sports events and community festivities. She is survived by her sister, Wendie Allstot, DeRidder, LA; sister Lori Hudson, Lake Havasu City, AZ; and nephew, Gilbert Fallon, Lake Havasu City, AZ.
