Fishing Tourney Particpants are Hooked on First Annual American Legion Willman-Fee Post 14 Event

The 1st annual Willman-Fee Post 14 American Legion fishing tournament was held Saturday, September 17, 2022, with 16 teams entered and proceeds from the event directed to the American Legion baseball team. Even though the fishing wasn't the best due to warm fall weather and afternoon wind, participants gave high reviews and some excellent points on how to make it even better next year.

The most unusual – and somewhat hilarious – event was when Scott Miller came up empty handed in the fish department, but snagged and brought in his rod and reel that fell into the river the previous week.

Winning the tourney with a total weight of 10 lbs. 5 oz. was the team consisting of Randy Oligmueller from Miller, SD and Chris Christenson from Watertown, SD. Placing second was the team of John and Devyn Brooks from Woonsocket, SD and placing third was Travis Hohn and Cory Jensen from Alpena, SD. Randy Oligmueller and Chris Christenson not only won the tourney, but they also won the largest walleye (3 lbs. 4 oz.) and bought themselves in the calcutta, so they took home a total of $1,477. The tourney will be held next year on Sept 16, 2023 with more information forthcoming. The American Legion would like to thank all event sponsors and extend a special thanks to Val and Dawn Luckett for auctioning off items and helping with the calcutta.
