On heels of 1000 Assists in 2021, Lady Spartan Volleyball’s Alyssa Grohs Achieves 1000-Dig Milestone

Once Again Celebrating 1000

Wessington Springs High School (WSHS) junior Alyssa Grohs cleared 1,000 digs last week during a home court volleyball win over Hitchcock Tulare. It’s a noteworthy milestone, but even more so because it comes just over a year after Grohs achieved the 1000-assist milestone.

“Alyssa’s a really unselfish player who works really hard and is always in the gym during the off season,” said Spartans Head Volleyball Coach Lynn Neely. “This milestone says a lot about our team in general. Alyssa can’t get a good assist if she doesn’t get a good pass to start with.”

When asked about reaching the 1000 milestone two years in a row, Grohs is quick to credit her teammates.

“When I get a dig I have to trust and rely on my teammates to take care of things when I get the first pass,” she explained, quickly adding that the support she gets from her fellow Lady Spartans and family have been vital to her success. “It’s even more special because our season is going so well. Our chemistry as a team is way different than it has been in past years, — it’s been super fun.”

Neely echoed Grohs sentiment of team chemistry.

“The junior and senior classes have been playing together for so long, they just click,” Neely said. “We have a very unselfish team with super impressive stats all around.”

The Lady Spartans defeated Avon in round two region action Tuesday and head to Bonesteel to face off against Tripp/Delmont/Armour tonight. The winners of Thursday’s matches will advance to the SoDak 16. These matches will be live streamed at http://wessingtonspringsspartans.liveticket.tv/
