Press plant closure delays area newspaper print edition delivery, includes True Dakotan
An active winter storm warning and predicted heavy snowfall prompted the Wessington Springs School District to cancel classes Tuesday, January 3. While the snow predictions for Jerauld County were lower than originally expected, at press deadline Tuesday, road conditions had deteriorated over the course of the day and visibility was very limited with more snow in the forecast and the storm warning in effect through 6 a.m. Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Forum Printing in Sioux Falls (where True Dakotan is printed) informed True Dakotan that the newspaper would not be printed on schedule Tuesday night. With 15” of snow on the ground at that time and snowfall steady, a snowplow was needed to clear the employee parking lot so day staff could leave — the night crew was already advised to stay home.
The hope is that Wednesday Forum Printing employees will be able to return and continue with print jobs, one of them being the True Dakotan. Road closures may further delay delivery of Mitchell Republic and the True Dakotan as Interstate 90 was closed Tuesday, (eastbound and westbound) from Chamberlain to Sioux Falls. The e-edition was published on time at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. The e-edition can be viewed by print and digital subscribers HERE
