Event raises $5,500 for Blue Bag Nutrition Program
Following a weatherrelated postponement in December, a supper and silent auction event aimed at raising funds for the Blue Bag Nutrition Program was held during Friday’s double header basketball game. And it was definitely worth the wait.
Through the efforts of the Blue Bag Program Committee, WSHS Student Council, WSHS FFA Chapter and WSHS FCCLA Chapters in December and January, a whopping $5,500 was raised for the program that addresses food insecurity needs of children when school isn’t in session.
While Wessington Springs School District provides free or reduced meals to children at risk of hunger during the school week, the Springs Blue Bag Nutrition Program fills an important void with its backpack program. This program provides children with nutritious, easy-toprepare foods once school lets out before weekends.
