Mercedes Jones, Riley Roduner, Branden Flowers and Haeleigh Mulder joined City of Wessington Springs Mayor Brian Bergeleen as he signed a proclamation recognizing February 13-17 as Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Week in Wessington Springs. The Wessington Springs members will celebrate members’ accomplishments, give service to others, and thank influential people in their lives as they celebrate FCCLA.
As members celebrate FCCLA Week, they believe that FCCLA offers students the chance to learn and develop leadership skills. Recently, members attended the FCCLA Region 3 meeting in Mitchell. Branden Flowers and Mercedes Jones were selected to serve as FCCLA Region 3 officers for the next year. The Senior Knowledge Bowl team will represent Region 3 in the state competition in April.
Thirteen Junior High members received a Gold rating on their Professional Presentation STAR Event and advanced to state competition. They developed their leadership and teamwork skills through preparation and presentation of their Professional Presentation. “I learned that I can be more confident when presenting to judges. They are easy to talk to,” expressed Junior High member Alexis Roesler. Wesley Molnar felt he “gained a lot of confidence” from his participation in the Region 3 activities. Members who advanced to state competition are Kaitlyn Braun, Nathan Gaikowski, Shayden Gregg, Holden Jackson, Ella Kolousek, Kendall Kolousek, Zachary Kruse, Jewel McGeough, Brett Miller, Wesley Molnar, Darcy Ormsmith, Alexis Roesler, and Tucker Thompson.
Local FCCLA members thank the community for their continued support of our program. According to Charlotte Mohling, FCCLA Adviser, “Without community support we would not be able to accomplish our goals and meet the needs of our community and members. Thank you for believing in our youth.”
