Support the arts in your local community

May is SACOTA Membership Month

Springs Area Council of the Arts (SACOTA) holds its membership drive each year during the month of May. The group depends on annual memberships to support its programs during the year. Individuals and businesses who contribute in this manner are providing a financial foundation that makes it possible for SACOTA to present quality concerts and other events for the community and surrounding area at very affordable prices.

Events already scheduled include Line Dancing Classes in May and September, Arts in the Park in June, co-sponsorship of Shakespeare Garden’s “Music in the Garden” and Plein Air painting event in July, Arts & Crafts at the Ribfest, the annual Fall Craft Fair in October, and “Art in the Classroom” during the school year.

On May 19 at 5 p.m. in the Springs Inn, SACOTA will hold its annual meeting. All are welcome, come meet the SACOTA board members and find out about planned activities for the year.

SACOTA also invites people in the community to share their art. All artists have to do is drop artwork off at the Jerauld County Courthouse in Wessington Springs. Art will be displayed in the courthouse community room gallery for the month of May.

Recent SACOTA events include a Paint Party collaboration with Crazy 8’s Creations and Book Club meetup with author Jodi Culliney.

Anyone wishing to support these activities and become a member may remit $15 for individuals and $30 for family or business memberships to SACOTA, PO Box 1, Wessington Springs, SD 57382.

Member dues can also be given to one of the SACOTAboardmembers, including Carrie Azure, Diane Winter, Mara Meier, Becky Easter, Julie Fastnacht, Janel Hettich, Debra Kogel, Elizabeth Magistro.
