With an increasing number of local children relying on the Blue Bag Nutrition Program, paired with a decrease in the amount of food donated by Feeding South Dakota, the program has recently been forced to purchase food at retail prices. With an overall increase in the cost of food, donations received throughout the year are simply not able to keep up with expenses.
The Blue Bag Nutrition Program supplies approximately 23 children with nutritious meals each week when school isn’t in session.
Program organizers are grateful for all donations and those willing to donate or help pack blue bags may contact Rod Huisman at 605-770-5328. The next blue bag packing date will be June 5 in the Elementary School library at 4:30 p.m.
