Rodeo Returns to Springs This Weekend

The time-honored event featuring over 300 cowboys and cowgirls from across the Midwest begins on Saturday, July 1 at the MRA, NRCA, M-SRA and SDRA-approved 20th Annual Wessington Springs Foothills Rodeo located at the base of the picturesque foothills in Wessington Springs.

Rodeo performances begin at 6 p.m. Events including bareback, saddle bronc, tie down roping, over-40 tie down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, senior men’s breakaway roping, ladies barrel racing, ladies breakaway roping, ladies goat tying, mixed team roping and bull riding. Slack begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 2 with rodeo performances scheduled for 2 p.m.

Other event highlights certain to entertain both Saturday and Sunday include kids mutton busting (call 605- 539-0014 to pre-enter children weighing 50 pounds and under), prerodeo music performed by the Company Cowboys and entertainment throughout the weekend delivered by Crazy Cowgirl Trick Rider. Concessions and beverages will be served up by area churches and the Wessington Springs Volunteer Fire Department both Saturday and Sunday. No coolers please.

Admission is $10 and kids 12 and under are free.
