Small Town Makes Big Leap Forward

Third Annual Leap to Lane Draws Over 400 to Event

With an unwavering commitment to improvement and progress in Lane, SD, Ed Gray, alongside a host of volunteers orchestrated the highly anticipated “Leap to Lane” fundraising event, which drew an impressive crowd of over 400 individuals to the quaint community last Saturday.

Now in its third consecutive year, the event proved to be a resounding success featuring a diverse range of activities. Car enthusiasts were treated to an antique tractor and car show, while local fire departments engaged in exciting water challenges. The air was filled with the sing-along tunes of oldies band Mogen’s Heroes and the electric sound of ZZ-3, captivating the audience with their live performances. Attendees also savored delectable offerings from various food trucks and enjoyed refreshments from the beer garden. Additionally, a silent auction, cornhole tournament and a fun zone for the  kids added to the fun.

The primary goal of “Leap to Lane” was to generate funds for Lane’s non-profit improvement organization, an initiative that aims to enhance the town’s  appeal. Notable projects on the horizon include the ongoing renovation of the community center and a comprehensive cleanup campaign throughout Lane.

Gray, who also serves on the town council, shared his  belief in the significance of fostering a sense of pride among residents.

“With so many small rural towns facing decline, it’s crucial that we take pride in our own community,” he emphasized. “The overwhelming support we received for Leap to Lane from local farmers, sponsors, and neighboring communities is a clear testament to their hope in seeing Lane succeed.”

In the highly anticipated 50-50 drawing, Travis Barber emerged as the winner and donated his winnings back to the Leap to Lane fund. The other half of the pot was allocated to local fire departments.
