Weekend Events Honor Tradition and Western Way of Life

  • Responsible for feeding the large group of folks participating in the Kyle Evans Memorial Wagon Train are a robust group of volunteers from area churches. The Wessington Springs Church Concessions group not only served up a delicious cowboy supper Friday evening but also served breakfast before the wagon train headed out in the morning. Volunteers shown above are Erin Yost, Hope Wenzel, Connie Dougan, Laura Bergeleen and Jeannie Franceus.

    New memories were made and old traditions honored as dozens of horse-drawn wagons and hundreds of participants united in Jerauld County to take part in the Kyle Evans Memorial Wagon Train. After a two-day adventure across the prairie, the clickety-clack of horse teams pulling wagons met folks in town aiming to greet riders and celebrate the western way of life.

    Riders and teams from the Kyle Evans Memorial Wagon Train made their way from camp to their final destination, the Jerauld County Rodeo Grounds in Wessington Springs. They joined a big crowd of spectators to take in plenty of bull-riding action Saturday evening.
