Senior Center Moments

Dianne Von Eye turned in her spatula for the last time on Friday, September 15. Dianne has worked for ROCS Dining Services at the Wessington Springs Senior Community Center serving meals at noon since 2018. She and husband Gary are moving to Mitchell, after having lived in Springs for 18 ½ years, to enjoy spending more time with their grandchildren.

For her last day she served 57 meals and gave an emotional speech to the large group of diners. Over the years, Dianne has enjoyed serving the Wessington Springs community with nutritious meals and visiting with everyone.

Under Dianne’s direction, the meal program has improved the average meals served per day.

“Marla will do a fabulous job taking over for me, but I will miss seeing everyone” stated Dianne.

ROCS Dining Service’s new employee Marla Ness, who has been working closely with Dianne for the past couple of weeks, is looking forward to working with the older generation after years of working at the elementary school serving children’s meals. “I hope to continue building the program Dianne has improved on at the Senior Center” Marla added. Dianne said she may come back to enjoy a meal occasionally and visit with everyone at the Senior Center if she gets time off from her new job as cashier at the Mitchell Salvation Army.

Monday September 18, 2023, 16 members attended the Senior Community Center meeting.

The Minutes and Treasurer’s reports were read and approved.

The Senior Community Center is providing free-will offering pie and ice cream after the homecoming parade on Friday September 22. As an additional fundraiser, the drawing for a quilt raffle will also take place. The hand embroidered quilt was donated by Sharon DiCarlo and will be on display at the Senior Center all day Friday until the drawing. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and may be purchased at that time.

Before the parade, ROCS Dining Service is offering a free-will offering meal of sloppy joes or hot dogs at noon on Friday.

Senior Center board president Judy Winegar will be driving in the parade representing the Senior Center. Give her a wave and a shout-out!
