The Wessington Springs Spartans Marching Band is pictured above on September 29, 2023 in Platte, SD where they competed in the Missouri Valley Marching Festival. They will head to their final contest Friday as they compete in the Sioux Valley Marching Festival in Volga, SD on the heels of some hefty accolades they earned in Platte: Outstanding Flag Corps, Outstanding Drum Line and Outstanding Drum Major. Well tuned with their Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit” performance, Band Director Renee Munsen said that she picked out the song last spring. “We play through different songs in the spring to see which one the students like and sound good,” she explained. “This was one they learned quickly and seemed to enjoy.” PHOTO COURTESY RENEE MUNSEN
