WSHS Alumni Part of Team to Break Northern State School Record

Northern State University track and field traveled to SDSU to compete in day one of the D2/NAIA Open.

The men’s 4x800m relay broke the school record with a time of 7:52.54 with the athletes of Josh Martin, Ricky Berndt, Dylan Schimke (Wessington Springs High School alumni pictured second from left), and Dalton Fleckenstein. The previous record for the 4x800m was set in 2018 by alumni Itoiz Rodriguez, Donovan Miller, Adam Leach, and Jacob Schweitzer with a time of 7:57.46 On day two of the competition, The men’s team finished in second place with 115.5 team points and the women’s team finished in fourth with 67 total points.

Schimke finished fourth in the 600m crossing the line in 1:22.73.
