The regular monthly meeting for the Wessington Springs Senior Citizen’s Center was postponed to January 22, 2024, due to extremely cold and snowy weather on January 8. Meetings are held the second Monday of every month at 12:30 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend the meetings, this is your Senior Center.
Elections were held for President, Treasurer and one Director. With only thirteen people attending the meeting, it was a quick election. Tom Mitzel is the new President; Eileen Thomas is the new Treasurer and Paul DiCarlo took the open Director position.
2024 membership dues are $20 per person and can be mailed to WSSCC PO Box 47, Wessington Springs, SD 57382 or drop dues off at the center Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. These dues helpdefersomeof thecosts to keep the Senior Center open and inviting to all seniors 55 years and older to enjoy noon meals and social activities. If over fifty-five, please consider becoming a member to support your local Senior Citizens Center. There is no obligation to attend meetings as a member, though we would love to have more people attend and get involved. Recently we have made a few repairs and improvements on the building; the rain gutters and downspouts have been replaced, a roof gate to direct the snow away from the front doors was installed on the roof, a new scrubber was purchased for cleaning the floors, two metal tables replaced wood cabinets in the kitchen, a big screen tv was mounted in the dining area, and four comfy chairs and end tables were added to the dining areas. Funds from grants and donations paid for these improvements. We had several bingo games organized, the Festival of Tables in May, an ice cream social after the 4th of July parade, pie and ice cream after the homecoming parade which were all well attended and fun events. Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy themselves and support the Senior Center. We look forward to another fun year of events held at the Senior Center.
