State-bound Spartans play together and pray together

When Spartans Boys Basketball Coach Kenny Huether suggested to his players that they attend church together the Sunday before heading to the state tournament, his players didn’t blink an eye.

“Our whole basketball team believes in Jesus. We know we wouldn’t have gotten here without God,” said Colby Flowers. “He’s watching over us and keeping us safe.”

The Springs Methodist Church congregation joined Pastor Cheri Van Gorp in praying over the team, coaches, statisticians, cheerleaders, fans and the entire community of the Spartans. The church choir also sang a special song intended to send the team state bound with abundant blessings.

“Community support is a big thing for us,” Brock Krueger said. “It really highlighted the community support we have,” said Blake Larson.

Coach Huether said church together is something he’s always lined up for his teams when they qualify for a state tournament.

“We have so much to be thankful for and simply wanted to spend a Sunday morning in church together as a team.”
