Kristi Hine, editor and publisher of the True Dakotan weekly newspaper in Wessington Springs has been elected to the South Dakota News Watch board of directors.
“I am excited and honored for the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors for South Dakota News Watch, Inc. The organization fills a need for state-wide news coverage through investigative and public service journalism,” Hine shared. “News Watch is an independent, nonprofit organization that truly shines in reporting untold stories that help South Dakotans be informed and engaged citizens.”
Hine previously worked 15 years in marketing and public relations in San Diego, Las Vegas and her hometown of Phoenix. Since purchasing the True Dakotan in 2015, Hine has updated and modernized the look and design of the publication while broadening its digital product offerings.
Hine just finished a year as president of the South Dakota NewsMedia Association and remains on that board for another year. Last year SDNA amended its bylaws to allow non-newspapers such as News Watch to join, which allowed its reporters to take part in the annual contest and participate on the SDNA board.
“The talented and seasoned journalists at News Watch shed light on the issues, concerns and welfare of all South Dakotans,” Hine added. “It is my great privilege to join the board of directors comprised of professionals with extensive experience in journalism, broadcasting, law, business, government, politics, health care, mental health, research, agriculture, academics and nonprofit leadership.
