LETTERBOX: Fabulous turn out at recent blood drive

Alyssa Grohs, from Wessington Springs High School, held a Scholarship Blood Drive with LifeServe Blood Center on Tuesday, June 11, and had a fabulous turn out. Thirty-eight people registered to donate, 34 donors were able to donate, and 40 units of life saving blood were donated. Thank you to every donor who participated in the drive and helped to boost the LOCAL blood supply! The units donated at the blood drive can help save up to 120 lives. Thanks to the recruiting efforts of Alyssa Grohs there was one individual who donated for the first time. The first-time donors and the four donors who hit milestone donations are listed below: FIRST-TIME DONOR: COLBY FLOWERS MILESTONE DONORS: 3 GALLONEER - JERRY VOORHEES 3 GALLONEER - LAURA KIESER 6 GALLONEER - MICHAEL KRUEGER 7 GALLONEER - OWEN FAGERHAUG Special thanks to the school for the use of the Rec Center Gym and Alyssa Grohs for all her hard work on the drive. Alyssa made blood donation her senior project and even though she is no longer in high school, she continues to help save lives and earn money for school at the same time and we couldn’t be more grateful.

We could not help patients in our 39 South Dakota hospitals, including Avera Weskota Memorial Hospital, without communities like Wessington Springs, volunteers like Alyssa, and your loyal blood donors!
