I occasionally write an editorial about the results of a game, a tournament or a season. Today I feel compelled to share some comments on your baseball team and the young men who comprise the team.
To me they feel like kids, but they are not. These men, are doing an absolutely stellar job of promoting and prospering your baseball environment. These men have given the field a facelift. Just take a moment to observe the field itself. The baselines are trimmed, the mound is improving, the weeds are sprayed. They hang around after each game, when I am long gone, and rake the plate area and tamp the mound.
The men at CK Fencing provided the labor and materials for a new batting cage. The net was provided by the Jost family memorial. The city provides labor to prepare the field for each game. Becky Krueger is such a great announcer and we are privileged to have her. The FCCLA and Mrs. Mohling run the concession stand and continue that tradition. I remember looking over there in the 80’s and seeing my dad and Dick Kolousek always standing there!
As you can tell from my out of control ramblings, there are a lot of people who make this happen, and happen successfully. I just can’t remember everyone, as it is a long list when you think about it.
Lastly, I need to give a shout out to Terrek. He just couldn’t stand not playing baseball after Legion and decided to rejuvenate the Owls after the team had taken a couple years off. Not many people realize how much went into it, but he did a great job.
Wessington Springs is hosting the first weekend of Districts beginning July 27. There will be eight games over two days. Please come support your MEN and witness the progression that they are making as baseball players.
