Springs Baseball Complexes Clear Winner at Gala Event

Glitz, good-will and a great time was enjoyed by over 200 locals and out-of-towners Saturday night at the Build Springs Gala, “Pitches and Poker.”

The fundraiser intertwined the themes of baseball and a Las Vegas night out to raise funds for improvements at both the amateur/teener and little league baseball complexes in Wessington Springs. As the dust settles this week and revenue and expenses are tallied, the Build Springs committee will share a grand total of funds raised to be published in next week’s True Dakotan.

Adding to the local flair of the evening, a vibrant social hour served by Springs Country Club kicked off the evening, with a steak supper catered by Sweet Grass immediately following. Wessington Springs FCCLA Chapter members served the meal and made sure everyone at the event felt like a Vegas VIP.

Interactive entertainment including a “human slot machine” game featuring Springs Owls players delighted the large crowd while helping raise funds. The popular dessert dash spurred a chosen runner from each table to get to the dessert table quickly and select a favorite sweet treat to bring back to the table.

The entertainment was only just beginning with a live auction featuring dozens of enticing items going to the highest bidders.

The headline entertainment for the night featured trivia comedian, John Cosgrove. The Irishman used his quick wit and sense of humor to create a fun atmosphere within an interactive trivia game involving all attendees.

Look to next week’s True Dakotan for fundraising totals and more photos from “Pitches and Poker.”
