Bailey Yost Scholarship Blood Drive Welcomes Two New Donors and Saves Lives

Dear Editor and Wessington Springs Community, The community came together in a powerful way during the Bailey Yost Scholarship Blood Drive held on June 10, 2025 at the Jerauld County 4-H Building in Wessington Springs. Thanks to the outstanding efforts of student coordinator Bailey Yost, the drive collected 43 units of lifesaving blood, potentially saving or sustaining up to 129 lives across South Dakota.

A total of 42 donors registered, including two first-time donors, a testament to Bailey’s leadership and outreach. In recognition of her commitment to saving lives and recruiting new donors, Bailey was awarded a $500 LifeServe scholarship.

Blood donations tend to drop in the summer due to busy schedules, vacations, and fewer school-hosted drives, but the need for blood never stops. It’s inspiring to see a student like Bailey step up to fill that gap. Not only did she help save lives - but she also introduced two new individuals to blood donation.

First-Time Donors
Mary Davis Dorothy Styles

Milestone Donors
One Gallon – Val Luckett, Devena Jackson, Hilary Grohs Two Gallons – Chris Heim Three Gallons – Ryan Jungemann

When students lead drives like this, it strengthens the blood supply today and builds a culture of giving for the future. We’re always looking for more students and community members to become blood donors and make an impact like Bailey has. Anyone interested in donating blood can contact me directly.
