Gann Valley to Celebrate 140th Birthday with Day-Long Event June 21

One of South Dakota’s smallest county seats is preparing for one of its biggest celebrations. Gann Valley will mark its 140th birthday with a full day of festivities on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

With the theme “A Home on the Range for 140 Years,” the celebration features familyfriendly activities, food and music.

The day begins at 9 a.m. with parade line-up near the Legion Hall. The parade itself kicks off at 10 a.m., with entries open to all and no fee to participate. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs Throughout the day, attendees can look forward to:

• Coffee and rolls sold by 4-H in the morning

• Concessions with three menu options starting at 11 a.m.

• A car show and shine from 12 to 3:30 p.m., featuring six classes and awards

• A benefit cornhole tournament at 1 p.m. for Lydell Krog

• Games and activities for kids, including a pedal tractor pull, bouncy house, and chicken bingo

• The Buffalo County Courthouse will be open for historical tours from 1 to 3 p.m., while the Community Center will display high school class pictures. At 1:15 p.m., Bingo begins in the fire hall.

Afternoon highlights include a Class of 1964 reunion and a community supper at the fire hall from 5 to 7 p.m. (freewill donation accepted).

Capping off the celebration is a street dance at 8:30 p.m. in front of the fire hall with live music by the South Hand Band. Admission is $5, with kids 10 and under free. TheAmerican Legion will offer beer and setups for sale (no coolers).

Festivities continue Sunday, June 22, with a 10:30 a.m. worship service at the Gann Valley Congregational Church.
