American Legion Auxiliary Convention Round Up

Judy Winegar of Unit #14, Wessington Springs, SD attended the 104th American Legion Family Convention held June 2022, 2025, in Huron, SD.

Highlights of the convention:

• SD ALA President AnnaMae Warnier from Alcester, SD opened the convention with a Finance and Department Executive Committee meeting on Friday.

• A joint banquet with the Legion, Sons of the American Legion and Riders was held on Friday night.

• Saturday morning, the gavel dropped, with the reading of the changes to the Constitution, By Laws, and Committee Chairman reports.

• Delegates and alternates were selected to attend the National Convention in Tampa Bay, FL in August.

• The “Member of the Year” was selected, and a banquet in honor of 2000-2001 Past Department President Marilyn Hobbs was held.

• Saturday night, the Legion held an auction and the auxiliary had the final ticket drawing for the SD Auxiliary Raffle with 50% going to the ALA department, 25%, 15% and 10% to a lucky person who purchased a ticket.

• We were privileged to enjoy the SD Band both Saturday and Sunday, playing patriotic music during our noon breaks.

• Sunday, the business meeting continued with the voting on the amendments and resolutions and the installation of new officers. 2025--2026 officers were installed, President, Susie Learing from Unit 193, Irene, SD, 1st Vice, Patrice Sorensen from Unit 311, Piedmont, SD, and 2nd Vice, Rose Kraft from Unit 80, Britton, SD. Congratulations to all.
