Shocked at ROCS News, Challenge Locals to Step Up and Financially Support Services
To the Editor,
I guess I was a little bit shocked, or disappointed, or sad, or maybe mad, when I read the story about ROCS on page three of last week’s paper. If ROCS is having funding trouble they should have had an article in the paper at least two months ago, when, as I understand, they were aware of a problem funding at least two of the all-important services that our community has come to depend on, rides to church and meal delivery from the senior center.
Talking to personnel at Springs Area Bus it became obvious that local support is what they need from us here at this time. So, rather than grouse about why we are in this predicament, I did what little I could do, I wrote a check, make that two checks, one from my mother’s memorial moneys and a smaller match from myself. I had been thinking about giving some of her memorial money to Springs Area Bus, (she was so thankful for their service for her to get to church) and we thought for some time it would be a good thing to do in memory of my dad, Ken, who partook of this vital service his last few years on this earth.
Think of this as a challenge. I challenge the great folks of the greater Wessington Springs area to step up and gift the Springs Area Bus to help in the support of these two most important and vital services. If a poor and tired mechanic/farmer can scrape up some funds, anybody can! We might all be amazed at how much we can do as a community for the bus. Look at what we all are able to do for this community already! I know, I know, it’s always about money, but like love, it does indeed make the world go ‘round and it will bring back, or continue, a great service to our seniors and others who depend on the bus to get them to church (the most important thing) and get their meals delivered from the Senior Center. Those meal deliveries are not just about food; they’re about checking in with shutins and providing maybe a little social interaction with smiling faces.
So, there’s your mission, should you choose to accept it. I pray we all can find our way clear to help in the support of this most important service, the Springs Area Bus. Give the folks there a call and visit about this subject. They are now in the know and we already know how much they love to serve. They’ll guide you right.
Thank you and God bless you! And may God bless our Springs Area Bus.
