City at the Foothills

“Special Thank You” to my granddaughter Becky Bell Krueger for writing my Cuppy’s Corner News for a month. I had major surgery at Mitchell Queen of Peace Hospital Sunday August 20. I was there five days then my daughter Cindy Zenk of Webster took me to the Wessington Springs Hospital August 24 to swing bed. On Friday the 25th, Candi Sails and Baleigh came to visit, and we watched the Blackhawks football team play Scotland-Menno. The Blackhawks won 446. They took good care of me on swing bed. People always complain about hospital food being so terrible. I thought all the meals were very good! They had me do lots of physical therapy. I have to go on long walks to build up my strength. My daughter Connie of Rosemount, MN stayed at my apartment for four days and visited me in the afternoon and evening. My daughter Carol and Jeff Collins of Castlewood visited me on Saturday September 9th and Brian and Julie Bell and Berklie of Mitchell visited Saturday evening.

I moved back to my apartment on Tuesday September 12. Cindy Zenk and Cathy White helped me get settled. Wednesday, I went to bingo. Lyle Pawlowski called the numbers. Others playing were Marilyn Robbins, Luella Teveldal, welcome to Judy Baumgart, Shirley Bender, Darleen Higgins, and Joyce Mees. Shirley Bender served a delicious pumpkin dessert and coffee. Cheryl Van Asperen and Becky Krueger stopped to visit in the evening, also Candi and Baleigh Sails.

I rode the bus with Joanne Grohs on Thursday to get my shampoo and set at Angie Mentzer’s. My daughter Cathy White was here and helped me put my fall decorations out. She drove home to Sioux Falls at 4:30 p.m. My son Darryl called in the evening. I watched the Minnesota Twins play the Chicago White Sox. The Twins won 10-2.

Friday Kris came to do PT with me at my apartment at 10 a.m. I enjoyed the shrimp and rice, coleslaw and cake dinner delivered from the Senior Center. At 7 p.m. I watched the Blackhawks football team play at the Miller Rustlers for their Homecoming game. Blackhawks won big, 41-0.

Saturday Ruth Jensen came to visit awhile in the forenoon. I enjoyed the pizza, lettuce salad and poke cake dessert at noon from the Manor kitchen. Saturday Becky stopped in to visit and found the SDSU Jacks and Drake Bulldogs football game at 2 p.m. The Jacks won big 71-7. Then at 5:30 p.m. the Minnesota Twins played the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox won 7-6.

Sunday, I watched the Christian Worship Hour with Pastor Harold Salem and the service from the Sioux Falls Lutheran Church.

I enjoyed the turkey with dressing and pie dinner from the Manor kitchen. I took a short nap, then went for a walk outside. The weather is nice. I visited with Vera Salter, Eldora Hasz and Kathy Larson, then took another walk. My daughter Candi and Tiara Sails visited late afternoon. Then they were driving to Sioux Falls.
