“Cuppys Corner”

On Monday, September 16, 2024, I wrote my news for the True Dakotan and Delia came to pick it up. My daughter, Cheryl, came into town to go to an appointment with me. I appreciate the care that Dr. Lim and his staff provide and give me. My leg is doing better. The Twins played in Cleveland Monday night and they lost.

On Tuesday, I ate pork dinner and ice cream served from the Manor. I attended Methodist Women’s Fellowship in the dining hall at 2:30 p.m. Diane Winter was hostess. She served delicious apple cobbler and ice cream. Ladies attending along with Diane, were Pastor Cheri Van Gorp, Elaine Roetman, Gladys Kieser, Laura Kieser, Sandy Beckman and Darleen Cuppy. The Twins won 4-1 on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, I enjoyed coffee hour at 9 a.m. and Joyce Mees was the hostess. She had orange plates with orange striped napkins. Joyce served delicious banana bread and snack mix. Those attending with Joyce were Lorraine Schultz, Judy Baumgart, Luella Teveldal, Kathy Larson and Darleen Cuppy. Cleveland beat the Twins in extra innings, 5-4. Candi and Baleigh stopped in to drop off a school picture.

On Thursday, we rescheduled my hair appointment at Angie’s to attend Vivian Stolen’s funeral. Lunch was beef tips on rice with peas. I had phone calls from Cindy and Crissa. The Twins lost again to Cleveland in ten innings, 2-3 on a walkoff home run.

On Friday morning, I rode the bus with Joanne Grohs to Angie’s to get my hair done. I had sweet and sour chicken from the Senior Citizens Center for lunch. Candi called to let me know the Blackhawks were playing on the school channel, 382. The Twins started their series against Boston Red Sox.

In the middle of the night, I became extremely dizzy and fell. Luckily, I had my med-alert necklace and was able to push it and activate it. My granddaughter Becky Krueger and her husband Mike came to help me. I was complaining of neck pain, so Becky told me she was calling the ambulance as she didn’t want to move me. I am extremely grateful for the ambulance crew and our hospital staff. Thankful that nothing was fractured. I am bruised up from head to toe but recovering. They believe I have vertigo and it is an awful feeling. Becky stayed with me for two nights to assist me when needed.

Cathy stopped on Saturday late afternoon, on her way back from Ella’s cheer competition in Brookings. Nora is a member of Sioux Falls Lincoln’s marching band and they were in Omaha for a competition, which they won! Becky had cooked roast beef for Craig Van Asperen’s party but shared it with me instead since she wasn’t able to attend. It was delicious. Happy 70th birthday to my son-in-law, Craig. Candi cooked supper at the Cone Zone for Cathy, Becky and Mike. Lucky they were here to cheer me up, as the Twins were rained out in Boston. Cindy called to check on me.

On Sunday, I didn’t go to church but Becky helped me get ready for the day and it felt refreshing and great. I am feeling stronger, but still get dizzy when I try to stand. I tell Grandpa Howie would say, “What else is new?” I try to keep positive. Becky and I had lunch from the Manor. It was pork roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, with green beans and blueberry pie. Becky got a few things for me at Dollar General and Mike washed up my dishes. With yesterday’s rain delay, I was able to watch the Minnesota Vikings win big over the Houston Texans and both Minnesota Twins games. The Twins lost the first game!

Fred and Cindy drove down to see me late Sunday afternoon. We all enjoyed supper together from the Cone Zone. The weather is sure nice. Deion Sails of Sioux Falls stopped in with his children, Athena Skye and True James. Connie called to check on me. Candi will spend the night with me. Cheryl will be in on Monday to take me to the clinic for a check-up.
