I wrote my news Monday morning. Delia Atkinson came to get it later in the forenoon. I enjoyed the hamburger, etc. and pudding from the Manor kitchen.
Tuesday Pastor Cheri Van Gorp of the Methodist church visited me in the forenoon. I had missed church two Sundays. The first Sunday the bus didn’t go and the second Sunday I had a miserable headache. I enjoyed the ham dinner from the Manor kitchen. In the evening, I watched the Minnesota Twins play the Miami Marlins. The Miami Marlins won 2-0.
Wednesday July 2nd, Luella Teveldal was hostess for our 9 a.m. coffee. She had red plates and white napkins with red, white and blue firecrackers and stars, etc. She served delicious caramel rolls made by Marla Ness at the Senior Center. Enjoying the food and fellowship were Joyce Mees, Darleen Cuppy, Lorraine Schultz, Kathy Brandenburg and Judy Baumgart. Thanks to Lorraine for making and serving the coffee. I enjoyed the delicious roast beef dinner from the Manor kitchen. At 2 p.m. bingo was played in the dining room. Shirley Bender called the numbers. Enjoying the afternoon were Marilyn Robbins, Judy Baumgart, Darleen Cuppy, Ruth Jensen, Joyce Mees, Doris Deneke and Luella Teveldal. Later coffee and cookies were enjoyed. Wednesday evening the Minnesota Twins played the Miami Marlins. The Twins won 4-2.
Thursday, I rode the bus with Joanne Grohs to Angie Mentzer’s beauty shop for my 10:30 a.m. appointment. I enjoyed the pizza, lettuce salad and sauce from the Manor kitchen. I had a Pepsi with it. The Minnesota Twins played the Miami Marlins. Miami won 4-1.
Friday was the 4th of July. The weather was very nice. The Manor cooks served one of my favorite meals, BBQ ribs, baked beans, coleslaw, cornbread, and for dessert we had watermelon. On the lid of the coleslaw was a smiley face and, on the watermelon, she wrote “Lucky You.” It made me smile! At 2 p.m. the annual 4th of July parade was held. I walked to the south end of the apartment building. I sat with Shirley Bender, Ruth Jensen and Diane Carlson. There were many nice floats, display of flags and tossing candy to the children. Also, there were many fire trucks, ambulances, tractors and horses. The Minnesota Twins played the Tampa Bay Rays at 3 p.m. The Twins won 4-3. In the evening, I enjoyed Macy’s 4th of July music program and fireworks on TV.
Saturday, I enjoyed a roast beef dinner and cake from the Manor kitchen. I watched the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays game at 1 p.m. – then they had a rain delay – my TV turned on the New York Yankees and New York Mets game. My daughter Cindy Zenk of Webster called to tell me the Twins won 6-5 over Tampa Bay Rays.
Sunday, I rode the bus with Delia Atkinson to the Methodist church. Kathy Brandenburg and Rochelle Witte were also riding. Lisa Edwards played a beautiful prelude. Pastor Cheri welcomed everyone and said a prayer. Praises to the King – we sang “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Several announcements were made – we sang “Happy Birthday” to Roger Dwyer. Quite a few children went down for the message with Pastor Cheri. We all said the Lord’s Prayer. Mitch Kraft gave the message on “Discipleship.” Holy Communion was served by Pastor Cheri and her husband Doug Van Gorp. We closed singing “The Old Rugged Cross.”
I enjoyed the turkey dinner and pie from the Manor kitchen. At 1 p.m. the Tampa Bay Rays played the Minnesota Twins. Tampa Bay Rays won 7-6. In the evening my daughter Candi Sails came and got my tablet adjusted so I can enjoy Facebook. She also took a picture of me by the 4th of July decorations I have by my apartment door.
“I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th of July events.”
