Foothills News: “Cuppy’s Corner”

Happy birthday to daughter-in-law Nancy Cuppy on January 4, 2026.

On Monday, January 5, 2026, Grandma Dar had a whirlpool bath and a massage by Loni Reindl Reif. She attended Bingo in the dining hall and had good luck winning some nickels. On Tuesday, January 6, Dr. Lim stopped in to see Grandma. She was hoping to get a few things changed, but for now she has to stay the course to try and gain strength. Methodist Pastor Cheri and Eileen Kraft Thomas stopped in for a visit. Happy birthday wishes go to granddaughter, Crissa Fruechte. Grandma also got her nails done this afternoon. On Tuesday night, Grandma tuned in to cheer the Spartans on as they traveled to Faulkton to play a basketball DH. The Spartans won the girls game 41-37 and the boys won 46-40.

On Wednesday, January 7, Grandma got her hair done by Sandy Wolfcale. Then she played Bingo in the afternoon and won three times. Candi visited in the afternoon. Becky visited in the evening. There is some swelling in her legs that we are trying to take care of. Using Becky’s phone, we were able to FaceTime with Cindy. Cindy can use the frame to check in and chat with Grandma, but the phone lets it be a little closer. Technology is so awesome.

On Thursday, January 8, Grandma had physical therapy with Autumn. Birthday wishes go to granddaughter, Alisha Bell. Connie called. Cheryl came in the afternoon. Candi stopped. Grandma tuned in to watch the Spartans and they hosted the SBA Crusaders. The Spartans won the girls game 5318 and the boys won the game 64-26.

On Friday, January 9, birthday wishes to granddaughter Meg Zenk and son-in-law, Fred Zenk. Grandma had PT. Cheryl stopped again in the afternoon. Becky stopped in. Brenda Easton stopped in to check on grandma. She tuned in to cheer the Spartans on as they traveled to Ethan. The girls lost 58-21 and the boys beat Ethan 66-55.

On Saturday, Jan 10, she had Cream of Wheat for breakfast. We received a skiff of snow overnight. Becky stopped in to tell me that Avery Orth and the DWU Tiger basketball game was on tv. Candi stopped in later and we watched a football play-off game. Becky stopped in after supper and I wasn’t feeling well.

On Sunday, the sun is shining and it looks nice outside. Happy birthday to my granddaughter Nicole Cuppy. Grandma had pork chops and au gratin potatoes for lunch. Becky joined me for the church service at 3pm. Pastor David Peterson of OSLC led the service. His wife Melva joined him. There was special music by Nathan and Madilyn Gaikowski. Communion was served. We stayed for fellowship afterwards and enjoyed the yellow cake and soft serve ice cream.

Later, Cindy called in the video chat. They were watching the Eagles and cheering for #88 Dallas Goedert. He played high school football in Britton and collegiately at SDSU. The sun was shining and the weather was so nice that Fred Zenk was going to go for a walk through the sheep pasture after he got chores done. For supper, Grandma enjoyed potato soup and chicken salad sandwich. She watched some skiing on TV and is looking forward to watching the winter Olympics next month.
