I wrote my Cuppy’s Corner News Monday morning. Delia Atkinson got it later in the forenoon. My daughter Candi Sails and Baleigh went to Mitchell, I asked them to get some things I needed for serving coffee on Wednesday.
Tuesday my daughter Candi Sails came to eat pulled pork sandwich lunch from the Manor kitchen with me. The Methodist Women’s Fellowship met in the dining room at 2:30 p.m. Attending were Pastor Cheri Van Gorp, Mary Jane Dean Belz, Elaine Roetman, Diane Winter, Judy Lewis, Cheryl Manthei, Candi Cuppy Sails, Rochelle Witte, Jean Ferguson, Sandy Wenzel, Diane Patton and me. Mary Jane Dean Belz was hostess and served delicious jelly filled Bismark rolls, chocolate candy hearts and coffee.
Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. the Wessington Springs Spartans girls played basketball at Platte. For the JV game the Spartans won 37-18. Half-time entertainment was some tiny tots doing summersaults. They were very cute! The Varsity game, the Spartans won 44-27. I’m so grateful to be able to watch the games on channel 382 on the TV.
Wednesday February 12 I was hostess for the 9 a.m. coffee. I had small red plates with hearts and smiley faces on them and served frosted donuts and snack mix with kettle popcorn and mini cheese crackers. Enjoying the food and fellowship with me were Kathy Larson, Lorraine Schultz, Joyce Mees, Luella Teveldal and Judy Baumgart. At 2 p.m. bingo was played. Lyle Pawlowski called the numbers. Enjoying the afternoon were Doris Deneke, Luella Teveldal, myself, Marilyn Robbins, Judy Baumgart, Joyce Mees and Shirley Bender. Coffee and cookies were enjoyed.
Thursday, February 13 the Spartans JV game played at Hitchcock/Tulare at 5 p.m. The Spartans girls won 27-20 over the Hitchcock/ Tulare Patriots. Half-time entertainment was gradeschool girls with pom-poms. The Varsity game was played at 6:30 p.m. with the Patriots winning 52-43 over our Spartans girls. The Spartans boys played Hitchcock/ Tulare at 8 p.m. The Spartans won 72-31. Parker Graff scored his 1000 point!
Friday, February 14 was Valentines Day. Candi and Leon Sails and family gave me a bouquet of flowers with red roses and white daisies, and a heart shaped box of chocolates.
Cheryl and Craig Van Asperen of Wessington stopped in the evening with a heart shaped box of chocolates. I had a pretty Valentine card in the mail from Connie and Jeff Theurer of Rosemount MN.
Saturday, February 15 the Wessington Springs Spartans boys played the Hanson Beavers in the Mitchell Corn Palace. The Spartans won 63-47. Colby Flowers was MVP! Later the women SDSU Jackrabbits played the USD Coyotes. SDSU Jacks won 7161.
Sunday Elaine Roetman and I rode the bus with Jim Deines to the Methodist Church. I sat with Candi and Baleigh Sails. Lisa Edwards played a beautiful prelude. Pastor Cheri Van Gorp welcomed everyone and said a prayer. Special music was performed by Chris Schimke on drums, Kirk Luymes on guitar, Lisa Edwards on piano and Lila Hoffman sang. Several joys and concerns were shared. We all said the Lord’s Prayer and then the offering was taken by Eric and Betsy Schroeder. Pastor Cheri’s sermon was “Taste and See for Yourself” from Matthew 3:13-17. We closed with the hymn “Standing in Your Love.”
I enjoyed the pork dinner and Boston cream pie from the Manor kitchen. Cecile Knight stopped in the evening; she wrote a beautiful poem in memory of Gladys Kieser.
