LETTERBOX

Bless All Who Provide Services in Wessington Springs Area

Dear Editor, This is not a negative letter about our small town and the things done wrong, this is a positive statement about the things that are done right!

I spent time in the ER and a short time later, three days and nights in the hospital. Our staff of doctors and nurses here would rate far above all the ER staff and hospitals in places I have been. The times in the last thirteen years I have visited them is ridiculous. One of them was in Tucson, AZ and that was great. Several in Mitchell were outstanding but none lived up to our staff in Wessington Springs.

Ambulance service was also superb. Dr. Terry Weaver has saved my life more than once and continues to keep me going. The nurses in the hospital who were on duty gave me the best of care and I even got a big hug from one of them.

My time living and having a big business in this area has been great. Perfect no! Wessington Springs community cares and continues to care about everyone living here. Several businessmen in the past have declared when they would pass the town would die. They have passed and we continue to move on. Our churches continue to struggle with too many empty pews but do live on. My pastors have continued to help me through my health crisis, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

My hats off to Wessington Springs. Bless all of you that provide services in this area.

Thank you, Darrell Winter Wessington Springs

2024 Make the Park Great Again

Dear Editor, In support of Kathy Voorhees' letter to the editor last week, we think it is a shame the way our park is being treated. We have been traveling to several communities this spring to watch our daughters run track and we have noticed how much care and pride those communities take in the appearance of their park and town.

In the past, many people and groups have made efforts to beautify and promote our park, but that would be hard to tell if one drove through the park today. Our park looks hardly like a place we would want to spend the day with our family. Why are we stock piling gravel beside the Information Booth at the entrance to our park?

Let's take pride in our town and promote what we have. Since we are Wessington 'Springs' we would love to see a spring-fed pond and fountain or small lake that is maintained instead of a swampy area in the center of the park. Now this is just one idea, but we encourage the city to consider ways to use our natural resources for our town's beautification more than we currently are.

We would love to see our city and community make the needed efforts and make our park beautiful again.

Wessington Springs has the Best People

Dear Editor, We have lived here 4 years now and have decided this was the best place on earth to move to. The people here all deserve their wings in heaven! I want to give a special shout out to our neighbors Joel and Linda Bosche. Terry had back surgery and Joel and Linda have mowed our yard twice! They were there for us when my mom died and we had to hurry back to Iowa. They were there when we moved in and had no furniture...and there were many other times; including sharing their garden with us! Thank you again Wessington Springs for having such wonderful people living here. Blessings to you all.

Diane and Terry Pocock Wessington Springs, SD
