The American Legion Auxiliary met on Monday May 19, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. with 12 members present. Chaplain Marla Ness gave the monthly prayer.
Roll call of officers with seven present. Minutes from March meeting were read and approved as read. Treasurer’s report was given and approved as read. The books have been audited, Sheila Christensen made a motion to approve the Audit, Vickie Brodkorb seconded the motion.
The selection from all applicants for Auxiliary Scholarship waspresented to Branden Flowers, this will be presented at the second semester of school. President Judy Winegar will be attending the State Convention in Huron in June. A new project this year will be Project Stuff Sack. If you have items to donate, please get to Judy by June 15 as she will be packing up to attend. The Belt Buckle project will also be done at convention. These will be given out at Central States Fair to gifted children.
At State Convention the discussion will be about raising yearly dues. This will be a lengthy discussion. As our unit has discussed we will have our delegate Judy vote “no” from our unit.
Dictionaries were discussed. Chair Jean Scheel will find out how many are needed for third grade in Springs and the two colony schools. Sheila will order more if needed. A total of 600 poppies will be ordered again for the 2026 year for usage. Treasurer Sheila will pay our obligations for this year. These are due each year.
Rosemary Winter made a motion to approve Sheila to pay any bills that come in over the summer months, Marla seconded the motion. Fundraiser for Auxiliary was discussed, we will do the summer calendar again, do these for June and August. Please return back at September meeting.
Memorial Day Service and potluck will be held on Monday May 26 at the Legion Home. The Legion Color Guard will go to Hope and Prospect Hill Cemeteries, after the service there will be a potluck meal at 12 p.m. Any help with the displaying of flags on Friday evening and the removal on Monday evening would be appreciated.
Election of officers was held with no changes made to the slate of officers. Verla Barber made a motion to accept the filled slate and Ruth seconded the motion.
Sheila read a short Memorial Day Poem.
The next meeting will be held Monday Sept 15 at 5:30 p.m.
