FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT: WESSINGTON SPRINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT

WESSINGTON SPRINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It is a great time for students and staff to relax and recharge. Also great for families to spend time together. I know students of all ages are busy with many different activities which keeps the schedule full, but hopefully able to enjoy time out of the school building. Even though we do not have students coming into the school buildings for class everyday, it is still a busy time at the school. Custodians are doing a great job of preparing the buildings/facilities for the new school year in August. Office staff are finalizing reports from the past year and working on organizing for the upcoming school year. We are ordering new supplies, making necessary purchases and just making sure we are ready for when school starts in August. We do have staff keeping busy as well with summer school, attending conferences and preparing for next school year. Some staff will be taking classes for their area of expertise.

The athletic teams are doing workouts and attending camps. FFA recently went to Land and Range judging and had some students qualify for National Land and Range judging next Spring. FCCLA is also active this summer by doing concessions at baseball games and having officers do some work in preparation of next school year.

As superintendent/ MS-HS principal I am also busy with normal summer tasks along with learning about the role of the superintendent and completing necessary items that need to be completed. So far it has been great and I am looking forward to beginning a school year in this role.

For the past few summers we had some big projects going on during the summer on our facilities. Last summer was renovating the Ag Shop and building the Ag Lab. We do not have any big projects this summer, but a number of small projects that will benefit the school. Some of those projects include getting new math curriculum, updating other curriculum, updating our vehicles, replacing desks and some general things that need to be done. However, I will be working with the board of education to determine big projects that will need to be planned for in the future.

If anyone has any questions about the school please contact me at the High School office. The phone number is 605-5399391 or email me at jason. kolousek@k12.sd.us. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July in a couple of weeks.
