FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT: WESSINGTON SPRINGS SCHOOL DISTRICT

Greetings, Wessington Springs Community. It is hard to believe but our summer break is about over and school days will be starting soon. I know kids do not want to hear that message. However, I also know that when students come back to school they will be excited and ready to go. We are ready here at school for the students and looking forward to seeing them all again. There will be more information about the start of school coming in future editions of the True Dakotan, through email and on the website. One of the things that parents and students can start doing is getting their school supplies. There is a list of necessary school supplies on the school website.

School will begin on August 19. Back to school night is August 17. The teachers will all be here on August 17 and 18 for in-service. The middle school and high school students will have times before August 17 to come check out laptops. That information will be sent out soon to students and parents.

Our fall athletic teams will begin their practices before school starts. Football will start practice on August 6. Cross country starts August 10 and volleyball begins August 13. The True Dakotan will be publishing schedules in upcoming editions. We want to remind all middle school and high school athletes that you must complete a physical prior to practices starting so get those done right away.

James Kruse is getting the bus routes set up. Contact the school if there are changes for your child riding the bus. 605-5399391.

This summer has been an incredible learning experience as I stepped into my new role as superintendent. I have learned so much. One of the things that I learned is that there is a lot of support I can look to within our school, within our community and around the state. I have had opportunities to take classes and attend conferences. Through these experiences I have met a number of fellow superintendents who have been great. They are all so helpful as I have peppered them with questions. Also, we have great staff in our school and a wonderful school board who all have been helpful and supportive. And all the community members and parents who have been such a joy to work with. Probably the best thing about my new role as superintendent is the opportunity to get to know so many more people and have great conversations.

We will have a great school year. I am very much looking forward to it. Enjoy the last 3 weeks of summer break.

As always do not be afraid to call me if you have any questions.
