UNITY IN PRAYER

Luke 18:1 says, “And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.” Jesus was teaching his disciples with this parable, the details of which I won’t go into because the purpose of the story was to teach them perseverance in prayer. This I believe is how we find unity as Christians – in prayer. We don’t all think, believe, or worship the same way in the many denominations of Christianity. However, we all do pray. It’s a start.

Today is Ash Wednesday, which again some observe and others don’t. But it does begin the season of Lent, preparing for something we all celebrate – the Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Some Christians will fast, others not, but all will pray whether associated with Lent or not.

As we move closer to the return of Jesus Christ, we should all pray with many adjectives, like fervently, faithfully, humbly, persistently, shamelessly. These are things Jesus taught his followers. He taught them he would rise from the dead, and he did. He taught them he would return, and he will, someday. Until then those who are called by His name ought to pray. Prayer is what brings us together, and isn’t that something we all could use more of ?
