Greetings to Wessington Springs Community.
The 2025-26 school year is flying by. Just over 2 weeks ago the Wessington Springs Schools celebrated the 100th day of school. I am sure there are some students that know exactly how many days of school remaining. There are many things taking place at the Wessington Springs Schools. At the Wessington Springs Elementary they had there AR awards on February 2nd. Many of the elementary students earned reading awards. It was great to see and we are all very proud of those elementary students.
The winter athletic teams are wrapping up their regular seasons and will be entering their postseasons. The Seniors are wrapping up their Senior Projects and will be doing a defense of their projects next Month. The Juniors are preparing for their ACT exams that they will be doing on March 3rd. The Science students are busy putting their Science Fair projects together. The local Science Fair will be March 24th.
The FFA will be starting their LDE’s at end of month. These FFA contests will lead up to their State Convention in April. Other exciting news for the FFA is the Ag classes are back in the shop and are also starting to use the new Ag Lab. At some point in the near future we will host an open house for the public to see the renovated shop, new Ag lab and their new equipment.
The week of February 9-13 was School Board Appreciation week. I want to extend a huge thank you to our school board members. Being on the school board is not an easy job. They have to make some very tough decisions. There are many factors that have to go into those decisions and our school board does a great job of considering all factors and making decisions that are best for the school district as a whole. Current board members we want to thank are: Dustin Weber, Jonathan Arhart, Derek Zastrow, Jeff Messmer, Gene Gaikowski, AJ Karsky, and Kasie Sealy. Also, a thank you to all past school board members who were integral in helping create the great school we have today.
