Heavy rains Saturday delayed the Wessington Springs Owls match up against the Larchwood Diamonds for just under an hour Saturday. As state baseball tournament action was finally underway for the Owls, the Iowa team scored six times in the first inning. The Diamonds' pitching never allowed Wessington Springs a chance to get back into the game in a 10-0 first-round decision in a twice-delayed game.
For the Owls, Mason Schelske started on the mound, allowing five hits and seven runs in just over four innings. The game was once again delayed due to rain in the fourth inning and was moved to Drake Field. Parker Dejean pitched the remainder of the game, with seven hits and three runs.
The game was ended in the eighth inning by the 10-run rule.
Terrek Butterfield and Tyson Lien each had two hits for the Owls. Schelske had one hit.
