A painting party, a gallery of local artworks, line dancing and more are coming soon for those curious about seeing, showing, learning or creating art.
First up is make-andtake painting by Kimball artist Tressa Reindl of Crazy 8’s Creations. The April 6 class will take place at Wessington Springs Elementary’s cafeteria from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants choose from among several wood project kits to complete during class. A materials fee of $15 to $35 will depend on the kit selected. This guided event is family friendly. Sign up by emailing wspringsarts@gmail.com.
For readers and prospective authors, April 7 brings local writer Jodi (Hettinger) Culliney home for a meetup at Springs Inn Café at 6 p.m. Opt to read her first novel, “Excess Baggage,” in advance if time allows, and then join in conversation around writing and storytelling. Refreshments will be provided.
In recognition of World Art Day, which is mid-month, the Jerauld County Courthouse is hosting works by all types of local artists for an exhibit that will run through July. Anyone interested in displaying their projects is invited to contact Teresa Fonder at trexxf@icloud.com or at the courthouse in the next two weeks. The exhibit will be open weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning April 15 in the community room.
“We are fortunate to have artists of all ages in Springs,” says Carrie Azure, chair of Springs Area Council of the Arts, “and getting to see their creative spirit through what they make inspires each one of us to dig in and find our own hidden talents.”
Huron-based dance instructor Tarin Oyler will lead line dancing classes at the Opera House, with specific dates to be announced soon. From western to Latin, she’ll cover all types of moves in a simple stepby- step process that gets boots kicking and hearts beating.
Watch for more creative outlets for any age as summer arrives. There will be art in the park, movies, fun with foods, vacation reading and face painting, plus outdoor watercolor and drawing opportunities.
