Jerauld Co. Pioneer Museum Rolls Out Vintage Linen Exhibit

As the Jerauld County Pioneer Museum gears up for a busy summer, they announce their first featured, rotating exhibit of the season, “Linens of Yesteryear,” displayed through the end of June at the newly renovated museum located at 236 Main Street East in Wessington Springs. “Linens from the late 1800s through the 1960s are featured,” said museum volunteer Deb Ponto. “From doilies to tablecloths and everything in between, these hand-done works of art include knitting, tatting and crocheting examples.”

Ponto said that while special pieces such as a friendship dresser scarf from Wessington Springs College dormitory residents are out on display, many linens are used throughout the cases in each room all over the museum.

“We encourage people to stop by and look at these beautiful linens and the many treasured pieces of Jerauld County history,” Ponto said, adding that the museum is handicap accessible. “We will change out the displays monthly during the summer season so be sure to check back in with us.”
