Becky Krueger Named 2022 Teacher of the Year

Stepping up to challenges and a willingness to help others get the job done is what earned Becky Krueger the title of 2022 Wessington Springs School District Teacher of the Year

Parents, students, staff and community members were invited to recommend a teacher or employee for hard work and dedication to the district.

Teacher of the Year nomination forms submitted on Krueger’s behalf point to “always having her eyes focused on the needs of the students. I was so impressed and grateful to Becky for her willingness to step into a completely different teacher role part way through the school year.”

Additional nomination information highlights Krueger’s professionalism and flexibility.

“As a colleague, I believe Becky is very easy to work with and she works in a very professional manner. I know she has also stepped up to help drive bus after school as a sub when needed. She adjusts easily to different plans and schedules, and is always willing to do whatever is needed to help out and get the work done.”

The goal of the Teacher of the Year Program is to recognize and honor the tremendous contributions of outstanding classroom teachers.

Each District Teacher of the Year, including Krueger, becomes a nominee for his or her district’s Regional Teacher of the Year (TOY) Award. From there, a Regional TOY becomes a nominee for the South Dakota TOY. If chosen as the South Dakota TOY, she then becomes a candidate for the National TOY.

“I am very appreciative and surprised to earn this honor,” Krueger said. “There are many deserving teachers in our district, we are all in the same boat, providing support for students and other members of the staff every day throughout the school year.”
