Central Electric Awards Grants to Local Groups

Central Electric Cooperative recently presented Operation Round-Up grants to local organizations that are working to enhance quality of life in and around the Wessington Springs community. The latest grant recipients were the Wessington Springs Summer Recreation Program and the Spartan Trap League.

WS SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM

The Wessington Springs Summer Recreation Program was awarded $1,100 for concrete sidewalks and dugouts at the little league baseball and softball field. In the grant application, Summer Recreation Committee Member Ryan Jensen wrote, “The new concrete will provide a clean look to our complex. This is a project that benefits kids and families for years to come.”

Approximately 40 kids from Wessington Springs and the surrounding area participate in youth baseball and softball activities.

SPARTAN TRAP LEAGUE

The newly formed Spartan Trap League was awarded $700 to help purchase equipment for shooting sports activities. In the grant application, Spartan Trap League Coach AJ Karsky wrote, “The funds will help provide the kids with the supplies they need based on the state’s criteria for competitions.”

The Spartan Trap League has 32 student participants. The program benefits area youth and encourages use of the local trap club.

ABOUT OPERATION ROUND-UP

Operation Round-Up is powered by Central Electric members who voluntarily round up their monthly electric bill to the next dollar to support community projects.

Amber Kolousek of Wessington Springs serves on the Operation Round-Up volunteer board of trustees. She was appointed to the position by Central Electric Director Mark Reindl of Wessington Springs. Since the program began in 2015, Operation Round-Up has invested $21,900 to support 17 projects in Jerauld County.

The next deadline to apply for a grant is October 30.
