Community NYE Fireworks Show Draws Large Crowd

A New Year’s Eve Feast for the Eyes

Right on cue just before 6 p.m. on December 31, 2022, droves of vehicles made a beeline to parking lots on the south end of town to delight in a visual feast of big rockets and thunderous booms that lit up the skies above South Gulch in Wessington Springs.

What began as a friendly Wessington Springs neighborhood fireworks challenge two years ago has evolved into a show-stopping fireworks display for the whole community to help usher in the New Year.

And the fireworks show aimed at joining the community together to ring in the New Year did not disappoint. South Gulch neighbors Jarrod and Jacki Bultsma and Dennis and Sandy Beckman along with Jason and Cristin Weber treated attendees to a more-than 30 minute show, originating from a hill in the gulch, directly south of the Wessington Springs sign along SD Highway 34.

The crowd showed their gratitude and delight with a robust horn-honking ovation.
