Jason Kolousek Named as Region Three Principal of the Year

Upstanding person. Goes above and beyond for students. Consistently does a great job for the school community.

These are just a few ways members of the South Dakota Association of Secondary Principals describe Wessington Springs Middle/High School principal, Jason Kolousek, as they announce his selection as 2022 Principal of the Year for Region 3. Nominated by his peers within the region, Kolousek was chosen for the honor because “he goes above and beyond what’s expected of a principal to ensure the success of students, the school and community as a whole.”

Eric Norden, Parkston High School Principal and the representative for Region 3 said that Kolousek is well-deserving of the title.

“He has worn a lot of hats over the years and has done a great job for the school this year,” explained Norden. “He cares deeply about the students, the building and is an overall upstanding person. He does a great job representing the school and education overall in a good light.”

When Kolousek learned of the award, he said he was pleasantly surprised.

“It’s nice to be recognized by them, to know I’m respected by my fellow principals in the region for the work I do here in Wessington Springs,” Kolousek reflected.

Kolousek will be officially recognized at the South Dakota Association of Secondary Principals annual conference next month in Deadwood. Although he is proud of the acknowledgment, he is quick to give credit, where he says, credit is due.

“I am honored to be recognized by other administrators in the state. But more so, I feel good that they recognize we have a great school,” he pointed out. “I look at it as a school award…the students, the teachers deserve credit for it.”
