As the holiday season shifts into high gear, a host of events are set to ignite holiday spirit in this part of the South Dakota prairie.
Wessington Springs is among the eight teams that have qualified for the Q107.3 FM Quiz Bowl finals presented by SD Corn, scheduled for Saturday, January 11 at the Pepsi Cola Theatre for the Performing Arts in Mitchell. This trip marks the second time in the past decade that a team from Springs advanced to the finals. WSHS Students Advance To Q107.3 FM Quiz Bowl Finals

Thirty-two area schools have competed since October in the Q107.3 FM Quiz Bowl to win a $1,000 grand prize that will go back to their school.

SDSU Extension to co-host prescribed fire forum for private landowners

BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University Extension, Audubon Great Plains and partner organizations are hosting a first-of-itskind event for private landowners in South Dakota interested in prescribed fire as a management tool.
With Main Street adorned in its familiar Christmas finery, the annual tree lighting event, Holiday Spectacular, highlighted the community’s holiday spirit. Mayor Ryan Knipfer, with the help of more than a dozen area kids, led the community countdown for the Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

The Wessington Springs High School (WSHS) Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapters have been focusing their energy on projects that will benefit community members, one of which consists of organizing the local angel tree. Anyone willing to join the FCCLA Chapter and help brighten a child’s Christmas within our community, is asked to consider giving to the Angel Tree, located at Jensen’s True Value.
