Wayne Schroeder, age 83, of Wessington Springs, died Thursday,December18,2025,at Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs. Burial was at 10 a.m., Monday, December 22, 2025, at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at a later date.
He was born in Alpena, South Dakota on August 30, 1942 to Martin and Agnes (Burg) Schroeder. Wayne graduated from Lane High School in 1960, and attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from South Dakota State University in 1964. He taught math and science in Polo and Lane, SD before resuming his education at the University of South Dakota where he earned his Master’s Degree in the field of Geology.
While living in Rapid City and near Custer, he worked for the United States Geological Survey. He eventually moved back to Jerauld County and helped on the farm and cared for his parents.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Irene Schroeder (Dennis) of Bancroft, sister Jean Beckord (Nato Solis) of Redmond, WA, brothers Darwin (Gwen) of Hot Springs, and Daryl (Maria) of Eugene, OR. Other survivors include eleven nieces and nephews and their families.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Dennis.
