ALICE VILLBRANDT

Alice Villbrandt passed awayonThursday,February 13, 2025, at Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs, SD at the age of 95. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Burial followed at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Alice was born August 27, 1929, to Fred and Matilda Mohling. She grew up and attended country school near Crow Lake and graduated from Wessington Springs High School. She also attended the Wessington Springs Academy.

On August 24, 1949, she married Wesley Villbrandt in Wessington Springs. From this marriage three children were born – LaDella, Jane and John. They moved to western Jerauld County in 1952, where they farmed and ranched, raising cattle and sheep. They sold the farm in 1992 after moving to Wessington Springs in 1990 to enjoy their retirement years.

Alice was active in her community. At a young age Alice was a school teacher at a country school near Crow Lake. After moving to town she was a cook at the Senior Citizens Center, which she enjoyed very much. Alice was a great cook and the seniors always commented that they would sign up to eat on the days Alice was cooking. Wes and Alice enjoyed square dancing, bowling, taking Farmer’s Union bus trips across the country and watching sports and other activities.

Retirement was spent golfing, fishing, playing cards and enjoying her grandkids and greatgrandkids. Alice and Wes spent many hours on the Missouri River as Alice loved to fish.

Alice is survived by her three children, LaDella (Mike) Lomheim of Sioux Falls, Jane (Steve) Aalbu of Spearfish and John (Kim) Villbrandt of Mobridge, four grandsons, Ryan (Mackenzie) Aalbu of Spearfish, Joshua (Beth) Villbrandt of Mandan, ND, Trace Villbrandt of Sioux Falls, Tyler Villbrandt of Omaha and four greatgrandchildren, Connor and Addison Aalbu of Spearfish and Kai and Cora Villbrandt of Mandan, ND, and many nieces and nephews.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Matilda Mohling, her father and mother-in-law, George and Clara Villbrandt, her husband, Wes, sisters and brothers, Eileen (Dale) Swanson, Wilfred (Alma) Mohling, Kenneth (Beverly) Mohling, Maxine (Luther) Miller, Dorothy (Ed) Wickre and Phyllis Mohling.
