Deadline to File Nominating Petitions for School, City Boards is Feb. 28

Election Date Set for April 8, 2025

Four City of Wessington Springs Council offices, four Wessington Springs School Board positions, one Town of Alpena trustee position and a Town of Lane trustee post will become vacant due to the expiration of the present terms this year, with the deadline for filing petitions slated for February 28, 2025, at 5 p.m.

On the City of Wessington Springs side of things, the two year terms of Kari Fagerhaug (Ward 1), Vickie Harmdierks (Ward 2) and Eva Voorhees (Ward 3) will expire in 2025, as well as the one year term of Layton Schimke (Ward 2).

As for the board of education, the three year terms of Sara Thompson, Darrick Van Dyke and Derek Zastrow (member residing anywhere within the district) are set to expire, as well as the one year term for Todd Grohs’ remaining term that Scott Kolousek is currently filling.

In Alpena, the three-year term of Tara Viktora is set to expire. Petitions may be filed at the office of the Finance Officer, 39205 221st Street or mailed by registered mail.

In Lane, the three-year trustee term presently held by Shirley Hines will become vacant. Nominating petitions may be mailed to the Town Finance Officer, Town of Lane, PO Box 1014, Lane, SD 57358 or dropped of at the Lane Café.

Circulation of nominating petitions for all public boards began on January 31, 2025. City council petitions must be filed with the finance officer in City Hall located at 101 Wallace Avenue South between 9 a.m. 12 p.m. and 1 – 4 p.m. CST.

School board petitions must be filed in the Office of the Business Manager in the Wessington Springs High School located at 302 Dakota Ave. N. between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., CST.

The deadline for filing petitions is February 28, 2025, at 5 p.m. Petitions can also be mailed by registered mail by February 28, 2025, at 5 p.m.

If an election is needed, the City of Wessington Springs and the Wessington Springs School District will hold a joint election on April 8, 2025, to be held at the Jerauld County Ag Building.
