OBITUARY: SHAWN ENGELMEYER

Shawn Engelmeyer of Watertown, SD passed away at the age of 54 on Saturday, February 7, 2026 in Watertown. A visitation and memorial service were held at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Shawn Allen Engelmeyer was born on January 12, 1972 to Dennis and Aggie (Young) Engelmeyer in Burke, SD. He attended elementary school in Burke, SD. The family moved to Watertown, SD in December of 1985. Shawn graduated in the Class of 1990 from Watertown High School.

On July 24, 1999 Shawn married Kristie Scheel in Watertown, SD where they made their home and currently reside.

During high school Shawn worked at Whiz’s Pizza and Rauen Steel Construction. After graduating he was a Machinist/Supervisor at Dynamic Engineering for a number of years. In 2003, he and Kristie purchased House of Wood in the Watertown Mall. While they operated House of Wood, Shawn acquired Fine Art & Frame which he operated until 2021. He started working at Terex in 2022 and was a Boom Tester at the time of his death.

Shawn cherished his time pheasant hunting and fishing. Many memories were made deer hunting with his dad and his brothers. He also enjoyed a good round of golf and pool.

Shawn loved spending time with his wife, family, and friends. He looked forward to yearly family vacations and tropical getaways with Kristie and many friends he made throughout the years. He always looked forward to spending time with his nieces and nephews. A favorite tradition of his was Friday afternoon Safety Meetings at the VFW.

Shawn had a face he would make when he definitely was lying or pulling a fast one, which everyone could tell when that silly little smirk / side eye would come out. We all loved his belly laugh when you got him going. We could always count on Shawn to tell it like it is and be honest, even if we didn’t like what he said.

Shawn passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday February 7, 2026 at the age of 54.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Kristie; his parents, Dennis and Aggie Engelmeyer of Watertown, SD; sister, Kristie (Neil) Ridder of Olathe, KS and their children, Logan and Siree; brother, Ryan (Gretchen) Engelmeyer of Lee’s Summit, MO and their children, Miles and Easton; brother, Andy (Hailey) Engelmeyer of Olathe, KS; his in-laws, Dennis and Jean Scheel of Wessington Springs, SD; brother-in-law, Jim (Audra) Scheel of Alpena, SD and their children, Carissa, Teagan and Kaycee; sisterin- law, Wendy (Joey) Denison of Arlington, SD and their children, Devin (Abbi) Denison and Karly (Derek) Haug; sister-in-law, Ann Scheel of Wessington Springs, SD; brotherin- law, Jason (Brooke) Scheel of Volga, SD and their children, Justin Randall (fianceé – Kurstin Struckman), Rowdy Scheel, Lincoln Scheel, Riley Kilber, Ty Kilber and Jocelyn Kilber; along with five great nieces and nephews.
